Built for the Backcountry. Fighting for It, Too.

The backcountry doesn't care about politics. It doesn't negotiate. The mountains, rivers, and desert corridors that draw us out—they just exist, indifferent to whether we show up prepared or not. That's why we build gear that performs when it matters. And it's why we partner with organizations working to ensure these places remain wild.
RecPak joined The Conservation Alliance in 2024. The fit was immediate.
TCA operates on a simple premise: outdoor businesses have a responsibility to protect the landscapes that sustain them. Over 200 member companies, including competitors in the marketplace, to pool resources to fund grassroots conservation organizations doing the hard work of protecting wild places across North America. Since 1989, that collective effort has helped protect over 125 million acres and nearly 5,000 river miles.

This year, RecPak deepened that commitment by joining the Brands for Public Lands coalition, a group of over 160 companies across 30 states standing together on a clear position: public lands are critical to our communities, our economy, and our industry's future. When policy threatens access or protection, the outdoor business community has a voice. We intend to use it.
California Wins Worth Celebrating
As a California-headquartered company, two recent conservation victories hit close to home.
In January 2025, President Biden designated Chuckwalla National Monument which is over 624,000 acres of Southern California desert near Joshua Tree. This isn't empty sand. It's a critical migration corridor and habitat for desert tortoise and the chuckwalla lizard (the monument's namesake). It protects the Mecca Hills, Orocopia Mountains, and the historic Bradshaw Trail. TCA made Chuckwalla a priority campaign, coordinating advocacy from over 60 member companies, hosting events, and funding CalWild's on-the-ground efforts for years.

The same month, Sáttítla Highlands National Monument secured protection for over 224,000 acres in northern California's Medicine Lake Highlands near Mt. Shasta. These lands aren't just scenic, they're sacred to the Pit River Tribe and essential to California's freshwater resources and climate stability. After years of fending off energy development proposals, permanent protection finally arrived.
Combined: nearly 850,000 acres of California wildland secured. That's terrain where our customers hunt, climb, fish, and push into the backcountry with a RecPak instead of a cook system.
The Work Isn't Done
Here's the reality: both monuments are rumored to be on a short list for potential rollback. No official action has been taken to rescind protections, but TCA and its member companies, including RecPak, are on high alert. When threats emerge, this coalition responds.
That's exactly why TCA relaunched the Land and Water Defense Fund in late 2024. The fund supports rapid-response advocacy and grants to grassroots organizations defending public lands from transfer, sale, or regulatory rollback. It's built for this moment—when bedrock conservation laws face pressure and the places we've worked to protect need defense.
