2,400 Miles. Rowing Solo
To Hawaii.
On May 21, Kelsey Pfendler pushed off from Monterey in a 24-foot rowboat named Lily. No motor. No support boat. No resupply. If she lands, she becomes the first American woman to row solo and unsupported across the mid-Pacific, and the third successful woman ever.
UPDATE (6/30/2026): Kelsey is expected to land within 5 days. If successful, this will make Kesley not only the fastest women to complete the crossing but now the fastest person ever to complete the crossing.
UPDATE (6/03/2026): Kelsey made history on July 3, 2026, completing a solo row from Monterey, California to Honolulu. She covered 2,400 miles in 43 days, 17 hours, and 55 minutes, breaking the women's record by over 40 days and beating the men's record on this route by nearly a week. She's now the fastest person, and first American woman, to row this crossing unassisted.
Huge congrats, Kelsey. Proud to have fueled the journey.

Months Alone At Sea
Kelsey rows in roughly two-hour shifts around the clock, sleeping in fragments. Her hands were blistered by day two. By day three she had crossed the continental shelf and pointed Lily into open water.
The boat is built to self-right after a capsize. Fresh water comes from a desalinator she has to power and ration. Every item on deck has to be lashed down before weather hits. There is no stepping off, no calling it a day. Just her, the oars, and 2,400 miles.
She Has Done The Homework
Kelsey spent close to a decade guiding multi-day expeditions through the Grand Canyon, rowing 300-plus miles of rapids and headwind on every trip. She rowed for Team USA at the 2022 World Rafting Championships.
In 2024 she skippered the women's four, Hericane Rowing, across this same Pacific route in 40 days, 22 hours, 14 minutes, through capsizes, a broken oar, and equipment failures. When the autopilots died, she combined two broken units into one that worked. She finished, was asked if she would do it again, and did not hesitate.
“You learn very quickly that you’re not in control.”
